About Gregory Sessler
Greg received his first real estate lesson as a teenager from the late Fred Sessler, a 65-year commercial real estate veteran. His father, Fred, also managed for 20 years a group of dedicated residential real estate professionals who served their clients with excellence.
His father’s work was regional in scope ranging from site selection for fast food outlets or gasoline stations or large-scale commercial and industrial leasing and sales.
In Vallejo, his father successfully developed several commercial buildings and managed them throughout his career. To see these activities was inspiring to Greg.
Greg’s over 40 years as a real estate appraiser has capitalized on his strong analytical nature, keen interest in real estate, and deep family roots in real estate.
At the University of California, Davis Greg studied an array of coursework relating to urban and regional planning, urban economics, and policy analysis. Land Use Law was one of his favorite courses where he spent time in King Hall (the law school library) on the Davis campus. The Land Use Law coursework is used daily in Greg’s real estate appraisal practice when determining how the land use regulations affect the potential uses allowed on the subject property. He even took a soils and water science course which has been useful in agricultural property valuations. Some of his reports were retained by professors as examples of outstanding achievement.
Greg took some graduate level courses at the University of Washington in real estate finance, urban development, planning, and statistics. He took a great Real Estate Finance and Development course from Dale Whitman at the University’s law school. Mr. Whitman along with Grant Nelson have written several law books.
At the Haas School of Business (Berkeley) he enjoyed another real estate course where an excellent book entitled Real Estate Finance and Investments by William Bruggerman and Jeffrey Fisher was used. Through his discussions with real estate professor Wallace Smith, he learned the foundation for multiple regression analysis used to predict housing prices.
Nine (9) real estate appraisal courses have been completed through the Appraisal Institute from the basics to advanced concepts and case studies. He frequently takes courses and seminars for continuing education. Greg believes in acquiring the latest tools and concepts for the benefit of his clients. The Appraisal Institute is considered the largest professional association of real estate appraisers.
Greg has taken four (4) courses through the International Right of Way Association. These classes include The Appraisal of Partial Acquisitions, Problems in the Valuation of Partial Acquisitions, Legal Aspects of Easements, and Easement Valuation.
Greg is active with the Community of Asset Analysts. Through this organization, there is almost daily discussion of relevant analytical practices useful to the real estate appraiser.
Greg is an active member of the Vallejo Chamber of Commerce and its Economic Development Committee.
In his spare time, Greg enjoys learning, eating good food, gathering with family and friends, keeping up with daily news and events, and exercising.
